It started with a near empty kit bag

It started with a near empty kit bag

It started with a near empty kit bag on a muddy pitch. Scraps of kit, lino flags, some tape and Vaseline in the bottom of the bag. We probably had 20 shirts from the past 5 seasons, all different, all with logos scratched off. Some long sleeve, some short. All too small

15 players turning up in their own shorts and socks, none matching

Subs swapping shirts when they came on. Three number 15’s in the squad

You get the idea

So what choice did I have? Put my hand in my pocket and buy a new kit. Except what do I find when I shop online? Bold stripes, maybe a hoop or diagonal pin stripe. Loads of completely plain kits. Or even worse, kit building sites that are slow to load with set patterns and fiddly controls that never quite line up

Then you have to pay for printing on top! Numbers, logos, badges, sponsors… everything costs extra. A decent kit might be £3-400 but the printing would be £2-300 more. F**k that

Now there’s a challenge. Can I make a kit that looks good, is reasonably priced, with printing included, with shipping included, with good socks that don’t shrink after one wash, with logos that don’t scratch off, with shirts that don’t rip or shrink after one wash… all the things you’d want to find as the guy buying the kit… can that be done?

At Melaa we’re pretty sure it can (and we’re doing it). We’re having a damn good go at disrupting the industry and want kits to be important to players again. Take some pride in how you look on the pitch, don’t stand for sh***y kits that don’t fit, change your mindset from the second you turn up – way before the first whistle –  start with Melaa and see how much difference it makes to your team
